FitDog offers training advice

I often get asked about my dog. Even from people I’ve never met. Tweets, emails, blog comments…”how is Frankie?”, “when is Frankie going to blog?”, “we need more Tweets from Frankie“.

I can reliably inform you that Frankie is happy and healthy, following the sun as it moves around the back garden and only occasionally trampling my newly-planted veg box.

Like most of the country, he has a four-day weekend coming up. One of the things he wants to achieve is a blog post, complete with photos and videos, outlining his training philosophy. He says he might also drop in some ‘advice for life’. He spends a lot of time lying down and he’d like it to be known that it only looks as if he’s asleep. He’s not, he says. He’s actually thinking deep thoughts. And now he says it’s time to share them with you.

So, as he prepares this blog post of his, please let me know if there’s anything in particular you’d like him to address. Areas he intends to cover include:

– training (endurance, steady state cardio, intervals, sprints, ball sports)
– fat loss and maintaining muscle mass
– recovery (sleep, lying down, stretching)
– nutrition and hydration (including raw foodism)
– psychological approaches to training and exercise
– advice for getting the most out of every day

Please let me know, in the comments or via Twitter/Facebook, if you have any questions you’d like me to pose to Frankie as he composes his blog post.

I’ve just read this to Buddy and he’s really excited. As a new swimmer (he finally mastered doggy paddle 2 days ago) he’s very interested in Frankie’s take on swimming.

I think it would be very interesting to hear Frankie’s take on maintaining a positive attitude to training in adverse weather conditions, and life in general!

I’d like to know how he copes with the ‘boredom’ of his routine and always seems to show a happy face, whatever…. Does “a 100 miles an hour or sleep” also work for endurance?

    ;o)

Does Frankie have any advice for keeping fit and supple as a “more mature” dog? And is paddling in cold water good for arthritis? (obviously, you wouldn’t want to get your tummy wet..that would be weird)

This is kind of personal, so I would totally understand if Frankie doesn’t want to answer this.

How does Frankie cope with Breed-ism in social situations? Is it a problem in the gym? Boxers are super friendly breeds but sometimes other dogs can be ignorant and mean to ‘mean-looking’ breeds! LOL

    (I have a little pit mix…she’s precious :P)

Frankie says thank you all for your intelligent questions. He will ponder his replies and get back to you very soon. Right now he needs to sunbathe.

Does Frankie ever want to just curl up and have a snooze rather than go for a walk? How does he deal with motivation?

    Dear Frankie,
I’ve watched you in action, and I would love to know how you have so much energy – and mental strength. In fact, I think your body just goes and goes without much thought coming into it. Am I right? Do you ever wonder why human beings aren’t more like this? I mean, run and run and run and only stop when they physically can’t do anymore? Is it cos we’ve forgotten the art of running around just for the fun of it? I wish we all had more doggie stamina – and sense of play. Any tips appreciated 🙂
