My bodybuilding debut part 1 (BNBF Welsh championships)

This is part 1 of 4. Read part 2 here, part 3 here and part 4 here.

Question: What’s solid, muscley and got striated glutes?

No, not me. MY WINNER’S TROPHY!

🙂 😀 🙂 😀

Let me back up a bit… and tell you all about last weekend’s BNBF Welsh championships, my first bodybuilding competition.

(If this gets too long I’ll chop it into several blog posts!)

The day before

ThefitMum, coach Kat and our friend Annie U all travelled down to Newport together, where we checked into our hotel before commencing the tanning process.

Mum sewed the straps on to my pre-judging bikini whilst Annie painted my tan on with a foam roller from Poundland.

I hadn’t drunk much all day and was parched, so begged coach Kat for a coffee (because, obviously, coffee will help with thirst?) and she jumped to my aid as can be seen in this dramatic action shot.

What a support team! All I had to do was stand there and be measured, hoiked about and painted brown.

We went for a spot of dinner (or rather the other three did, I ate my preprepared food out of my little coolbag). Coach Kat surprised me with a small glass of red wine which was like nectar from heaven!

Back upstairs for another coat of tan and we watched the DVD of a previous year’s BNBF British finals. Then it was time for bed.

True to form, I barely slept. I know I was still awake at 4am. No real reason, excitement I think, although I was extremely thirsty and my feet were cramping up. At one point I tweeted “this is better than Christmas!” – that’s what it felt like, when you can’t sleep on Christmas Eve because sleeping is too boring and you just want it to hurry up and be Christmas Day.

I slept for a bit – maybe 40 minutes – but then got up at 6am and shut myself in our bathroom (so as not to wake thefitMum), read the very sweet card Kat had given me, and ate some chicken.

By 8am we were all eating breakfast. I really needed to…er…”go” but my insides had a touch of stage fright. So my breakfast consisted of black coffee, prunes and eggs. Ha! (It didn’t work, by the way. So now I was just full of prunes and eggs).

Another coat of tan and then I did my makeup (we didn’t tan my face). Then it was time to go and register!

(to be continued…)
