Windermere’s beautiful. What a lovely place to swim. Oh how gorgeous.
Yes, I’m sure it is, but a lake that size can get pretty choppy and, when you’re swimming into a headwind the whole way, you don’t actually get to see any of the lovely surroundings.
As part of my training for swimming round Jersey in 2007, I popped up to my old Uni stomping ground and swam the length of Windermere (10.5 miles). Into a headwind the whole way. The swim took a mind-numbing 6 hours and 41 minutes. Um, yeah.
